Theres too much going on. Especially with the black font and then having the face behind it. I dont know what to concentrate on, the title, the authors name or the face.
I think a cover should be easy to read and identify, this is not.
I only just realised the face, as i thought it was only in the french version.
So if i had to pick out of those two i would pick the first one, but the newest one (green one) is absolutely beautiful! as soon as i saw it i wanted it! I could say alot more about it but i wont :) Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08030865978219165217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955420282479112508.post-81766101318781743192010-12-17T20:08:38.330-05:002010-12-17T20:08:38.330-05:00I'm curious what your ARC cover looks like now...I'm curious what your ARC cover looks like now (are you in the UK?). In that aspect I do believe it is fitting for the story, just from the synopsis. But I still would prefer the ARC cover simply because I feel like I could connect better with that person, rather than the hidden face. I guess we really do judge a book by its cover, huh?Jessica K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12480400785564101170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955420282479112508.post-3418194744566646952010-12-16T00:35:07.600-05:002010-12-16T00:35:07.600-05:00Jessica, Yay, another one for the ARC cover! They often tend to be sooo depressing.

Nina! I love your comment! I love that you prefer the final cover and explained why. Hm, I do get a more frantic vibe from the official cover, now that you mention it. Part of me didn't like that cover as much because it looked sort of disorganized with the words over the picture. But now that you mention it, that jumbled, as you say, frantic, feeling can be a reflection of Lena's own consuming confusion.

I won't confirm or deny your suspicions about panic and violent struggle :)

It's interesting that you mention you'd dismiss the ARC cover if you saw it in a bookstore. I totally see what you're saying about it looking more paranormal. Stepping back, if I didn't know the book was a dystopian, you're right, I probably would assume it was a paranormal book. Maybe a girl getting turned into a vampire? In that way I definitely agree with you that the cover is somewhat misleading.

I see what you're saying about the mystery aspect of the official cover. To me, it seems too vague and so I don't have much direction for thought. I'd probably assume it was contemporary fiction, and maybe more serious contemporary fiction at that. I don't tend to read that genre as much, so exploring my own reactions, that's probably why I also tend to dislike the new cover.

I loved hearing your thoughts! You're so right, it is so much fun hearing differing opinions. I've been wondering this whole time what the people who decided on the official cover were thinking, and now you've given me some possible answers. Thanks!Small Reviewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16072352095510905410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955420282479112508.post-55677502601193942102010-12-15T20:07:39.059-05:002010-12-15T20:07:39.059-05:00Wow, I just saw the ARC cover now, and it does loo...Wow, I just saw the ARC cover now, and it does look great. But I still think that the final cover is better. When I look at it I have this ominous and frantic feeling that I can't understand (possibly the font that covers the model's face), and yes it does have the more violent and stronger statement than what is actually in the story, but with the accompanying blurb, which also gives an air of panic for what is going to happen, and possibly a strong, violent struggle for things to come, it is more appropriate. I have no idea about what happens in the story, I am just basing my observations from the published synopsis. Maybe I am the only one who feels panic when I see that cover with the fonts almost covering the model's face.

Aesthetically, I also like the final cover better because if I were to go to the bookstore now and see the ARC cover, I'd immediately dismiss it as paranormal fiction and would probably never give it as much respect and attention than it deserves (not saying that I have no respect for paranormal fiction, it's just my interest and preference go in a different direction). I mean, yes she looks very hopeful and open, but in the final cover, almost devoid of an illustration, only the title and the author's name and part of the model's face visible, it exudes mystery and I feel it demanding me to pick it up and at least read the blurb to see if I would want to read it.

It all depends on individual reader's tastes, I guess, so what may be good for me may not be good for you, and that's what makes it more interesting, the varied preferences.

I love that you created this post, which makes for a lively discussion. And thank you for giving me a heads-up about this on my blog. Oh and about that dinosaur, yeah the facial expression was very simple yet funny and cute.

Brush Up On Your ReadingNina B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/05724080316627086644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8955420282479112508.post-92098952857735220162010-12-15T16:53:58.792-05:002010-12-15T16:53:58.792-05:00I love the ARC cover...it seems like she is hopefu...I love the ARC cover...it seems like she is hopeful even when it is gloomy.
