Recap 5/14 to 5/20

In case you missed anything, here's a recap of what was posted Saturday, May14th through Friday, May 20th.

+ Giveaways, review comparison submissions, and a survey

Survey

I'm running a survey to try to improve Small Review. The survey looks long, but it should only take a few minutes to complete. Most of it is multiple choice, but I'm the kind of person who always has trouble with multiple choice because I always want to add a "but...." or some sort of explanation. So I've included the option for you to make comments with the multiple choice responses (you can skip those and just answer the multiple choice parts).

None of the questions are required, so feel free to skip as many as you want. The form is anonymous, so please feel free to speak your mind. I'll leave the survey up until June 1st to give you time to fill it out at your convenience. Thank you so much and I hope I can use your responses to help make Small Review even better!

What's Your Status?

A meme created by Zakiya from Butterfly Feet Walking on Life where we recap our reading week. Feel free to visit her site and link up your own What's Your Status Posts. Here's how my week went:

Finished

 Wrapped by Jennifer Bradbury
Artemis the Brave (Goddess Girls #4) by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab

(Click on the titles to go to Goodreads)

I liked Wrapped ok, but I was kind of disappointed with it.
Artemis the Brave was cute just like all the other Goddess Girls books.
I really liked The Near Witch.

  3. Hey Small, I've started "The Fourth Stall". I like it a lot! Thanks for the tip off. Also, I'm not sure if I'm going to have time to get to Wrapped before it expires on my IPAD. I'm glad you didn't rave about it or I'd feel an overwhelming desire to get to reading it!

  4. Hey! you have a really great site here. Followed the WoW link but I didn't know either of your books so I started perusing the site. I like how organized you are and how your reviews are long and thoughtful :). Glad that I will be reading the reviews to come!

It's sad that you were disappointed with Wrapped. I read the Goodreads summary and it sounds like something I'd like. Will there be a review for it or was that a book you'd just read for fun?

  5. Nic, I’m so glad you’re back! I’ve missed your comments :) I’ll have a review for The Near Witch up in a few weeks, but I thought it was really good. Not quite Special Shelf, but a nice original story that’s a standalone.

Alex, That’s why I finally buckled down and read The Near Witch. I’ve been really making myself focus and read my e-galleys before they disappear. I hope you get to read it before it goes away! I thought it was a pretty fast read. The chapters are short and the plot moves along well enough. I’m loving The False Princess so far!

Gina, Yay! I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Fourth Stall. I can’t wait to read your review. Eh, you don’t really love historical fiction, right? Wrapped has a lot of time spent with the characters researching and talking about historical stuff. There’s not much action.

Christina, Thank you for following! I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed my reviews and site. :) I will post a review for Wrapped…hopefully in June. The short and sweet of it though is that I was kind of bored, didn’t really feel the characters, the conclusion was obvious to me really early on, and there were some historical inaccuracies that were kind of annoying (though that’s not the end of the world). I did like the voice of the main character, the guy was cute, and the premise/setting was fun. It was interesting to see that perspective of history. If it sounds good to you, then I’d say give it a try. It’s short and reads pretty quickly.

  8. I loved The False Princess. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts, especially since I haven't read The Decoy Princess yet.

  9. Julie, Yeah, it was disappointing. Especially with such a pretty cover and interesting blurb. I hope you enjoy The Near Witch!

Danya, I did enjoy it! I think I would have liked it even more if I wasn’t reading it on my computer. It had good atmosphere and the ending was great.

Madigan, I just finished The False Princess today. I liked it a lot, but not as much as I was hoping. I think I would have cut out that whole beginning part with her aunt. I haven’t read The Decoy Princess yet, but I’m curious to see how they’ll compare.

It's all about friendly conversation here at Small Review :) I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Be sure to check back again because I do make every effort to reply to your comments here.

Because I am absolutely terrible about following through with blog awards, I can't in good conscience accept any more. Thank you very much for thinking of me though!
