Summary:
The story opens with the funeral of twins Lia and Alice's father, leaving the girls and their crippled younger brother orphans in the care of their aunt. The cause of death is largely unknown, but soon Lia unravels the mystery behind not just her father's death, but her mother's death as well. Tied to these deaths is an ancient prophecy surrounding heaven, hell, Alice, and Lia. As events unfold, Lia realizes her sister's increasing malevolence and the danger Alice's connection to hell presents not only to Lia, but to the world.

Review:

Overly dramatic and not completely coherent, Prophecy of the Sisters is a paranormal story reminiscent of 19th century Gothic horror. The writing style, while a little rough in some places, is successful enough overall in transporting the reader to another time and style. Though I had a little trouble connecting to the characters, they were effective enough in keeping me engaged in the story and their plight. The mystery was unraveled in a way that kept me wanting to read more to find out what was going to happen, though the eventual reveal was less impressive than the lead up. I'm not completely sold on the revelation, but I'm willing and curious enough to suspend belief and see how Zink will carry on her story in the next book. Recommended to fans of Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy or Gillian Shields' Immortal series.

Fair warning to readers: This book ends abruptly and on a cliffhanger.
