What's Your Status?

A meme created by Zakiya from Butterfly Feet Walking on Life where we recap our reading week. Feel free to visit her site and link up your own What's Your Status Posts. Here's how my week went:

Finished

Not to brag too much, but I so rocked this week!
Sure, ok, maybe most of these books were on the shorter side, but I'm still totally patting myself on the back.
Even better, I loved all but one of these books (I'll cry about All Just Glass in my review later on).

Did Not Finish

Dreaming Anastasia by Joy Preble
Received: Free e-book from Amazon

Clearly I didn't get very far into this book, so take what I say with a grain of salt. For all I know things could have changed soon after I stopped and so my experience may not be representative of the rest of the book.

I wasn't able to connect with the characters and the main character Ann annoyed me. She wasn't the type of person I would want to hang out with and the idea of spending a few hundred pages with her didn't appeal to me. She was a downer and extremely critical of everyone around her to the point where I wanted to slap her and tell her, "Honey, you ain't 'All That' yourself either!"

I wasn't feeling the Anastasia trapped by a supernatural creature part, but this might have been well executed. I don't know. I may pick up this book at another point, (in large part because I want to like it because of the cover) but given my strong dislike of the main character I don't think I'll be revisiting it as long as I have other TBR options at hand. Unless of course anyone has read this book and promises it's worth reading?

Feedback Please!

Email:
We're closing on week two of email responses to comments. How do you like it? Is it helpful? Annoying? Remember, if you don't have your email made public on your Blogger profile, then I can't send you an email alert when I respond to your comments.

How To Posts:
I've added a request form for future How To post topics. If there's something you've been wondering how to do and you would like me to address in a How To post, please fill out the form by Clicking Here. You can also click on the Blogging Tips and Tricks picture in the left sidebar to get the same link.

I can't stress enough how much you would be doing me a favor by making these requests. You're saving me from wracking my brains to come up with new post topics, so please don't feel shy or like you're bothering me. It's quite the opposite!

Your questions so far have all been great! Some require large responses and so I'll make dedicated posts for them. Others require much shorter responses, so I may make a Q&A post where I'll answer a few questions at once. We'll see how it goes.

  1. I really like the email feature! Super handy reminder for me to check back. Sometimes, especially when I go on a rash of commenting, I forget what comments/questions I left where. I'm old. I need gentle prodding.

Keep the How-Tos coming! Love it love it love it. I already submitted an anonymous request. Bet you can guess which one it is. A hint: it's filed under Sofa King Stupid.

Also, I realized today (see? I am SLOOOOW) that I should give you a shoutout for inspiring my weekly recap. I'm really sorry. I don't want you to get the impression that I am like The Roommate and adopting your bloggy aspects as my own in some evil takeover plot.

Thank you for being such an inspiration and mentor and role model and all around terrific blogger. I will give credit where credit is due.

  2. Honestly, I like the e-mail alerts for comment responses. Otherwise, I tend to forget what I said to who where! Lol.

  3. Another busy week I see! I couldn't finish Dreaming about Amelia either.

I like the email reply to comments as it makes it a lot easier to check back. Also I made a suggestion the other day for the how to section.

    Have a great weekend :)

  4. I like the email alerts are I wouldn't normally get time to check back every time I comment so I'd probably miss your reply without it.

  5. At first I didn't think I'd like the idea of an email response. But I was wrong. I enjoy it and it gives a nice link to your blog so I can read anything new posted.

I love the "How To" posts and I'm still a big fan of the recap post. What I like the most is when you discuss the books you didn't finish and why. I enjoy reading your feeling and finding out how come a certain books were bad enough to not finish. You always have good reasons. Some of the books I will still try to read (Choker and Dreaming Anastasia ) because I want to see if my tastes are the same or different than yours.

  6. Eh, I could do without the e-mail reminder... I check your blog so regularly anyway, I don't really need a reminder.

  7. I appreciate the e-mails to let me know you responded to my comment. It makes me feel all important and stuff. ;)

Shame that Dreaming Anastasia was a DNF for you. I've come across a handful of protags that have annoyed me too, so I know the feeling. Good thing I got DA as a free download or I would be kicking myself right now.

    Happy Weekend.

  8. Logan, Ok good! That’s exactly the reason I thought of doing the emailing. I comment all over and then forget where I’ve commented. All of the requests are fine :) None have been stupid. You are so completely awesome. You just totally made my night! You didn’t steal anything! I’m hardly original, but I appreciate the shout out nonetheless :)

Natalie, Good to know! I’m glad you’re finding them helpful. I’m incredibly forgetful with my comments too. I wish blogger had a reply/email alert feature like Live Journal has.

Nic, Yup! Aw, too bad. Dreaming Anastasia has such a beautiful cover. I so wanted to like it. I’m glad you like the email alerts. Thank you for the feedback and how to suggestion!

The Slowest Bookworm, Thank you for the feedback! I’m glad you’re finding them helpful.

Gina, I’m glad you’re liking them! I was worried they might be annoying, but I love it when I get the automated alerts from other blogs. I’m happy to hear you like the How To and Recap posts! My discussing the DNF books is totally because of you. :) You had asked me why I didn’t finish You Wish and I thought, “You know, I should include an explanation” So thank you!

Madigan, Thanks for the feedback! I’ll try to remember you do not want the email alerts, but I apologize in advance if I forget! :)

Missie, Aw, you are important :) I got DA the same way, which was a relief.

  9. I didn't know we could make our emails public or private. With other blogspot accounts, I usually check the box to see emails to follow-ups, but I can never find one on yours. I really need to come through and see when you respond! I'd love a post on how to make things public. Or do I just hit subscribe by email? I'll do that right now, just in case...

Also, while we're on the feedback section, do you know if there's a way to make your default to have Blogspot send comments straight to your email account account? I only get comments if I comment on my own entry and say to send me future responses. It's not as intuitive as LJ, that's for sure. I see comments on the newer entries, but don't often check older ones... *muses*

It's all about friendly conversation here at Small Review :) I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Be sure to check back again because I do make every effort to reply to your comments here.

Because I am absolutely terrible about following through with blog awards, I can't in good conscience accept any more. Thank you very much for thinking of me though!
