Small News and Giveaway (US/CA)

Getting Personal

Well, it has been a long time since I've posted anything other than a review or a long overdue Books I Got post. That's mostly because not much has been happening of note, but enough boring every day things have been happening that have been taking my time away from other kinds of posts.

Plus, I think I've found a groove, which has been really nice.

And of course that's why I'm throwing a wrench in the whole thing!

Not really. But kinda.

I've moved again and I'm getting settled in my new home. It's still within Texas, but Texas is HUGE, so it was a fairly far move. I'm now about six hours away from everything I knew and loved, which is both exciting and a little scary!

So, why did I move? New job! Yay! I'm now supervising a library!

I'm so excited to be going back to my library roots because, much as I've loved what I've been doing, I miss the library atmosphere.

I'm looking forward to it, but this means I'll probably be busy in the beginning until I find a new groove. I will still have reviews going up for now since I've scheduled a bunch in advance, but things might slow down a little after that. I'll also be super limited in the review requests I accept (I was going to say I'm not accepting ANY, but who am I kidding?).

And, just in case you missed it, I'm going to re-post about my current giveaway because I love this series so much that I'm going to book pusher it onto all of you every chance I get.

Thanks to Tor I have three finished copies of Icefall by Gillian Philip to give away! Icefall is the fourth and final book in the Rebel Angels series (it's not actually about angels. It's about fairies. But not typical fairies. At all.) I absolutely love this series and can't recommend it enough so I am extra excited to be able to help get these books into new readers' hands.

Info for the giveaway:
  • What you can win: One of three finished copies of Icefall by Gillian Philip
  • As always, you do NOT have to be a follower
  • This giveaway is US/CA only
  • You must be 13 years of age or older
  • One entry per person
  • I will contact the winner through email and the winner will have 24 hours to reply before a new winner is chosen
  • This giveaway closes on April 30th

Small News

So, I've been a little MIA lately, huh? Well, I have kind of a happy reason for that. As you're reading this, I'll be getting married!

I'll be back to more regularly schedule posting and commenting in about a week. See you soon!

Saturday Swap and Other Small News (Of YAY!)

On the first Saturday of every month, Ruby from Ruby's Reads hosts an event called Saturday Swap where readers can trade books they don't want anymore for books they do want. Sounds pretty perfect, right?

I've intended to participate in the swap for months, but I'm scattered and have never managed to get my stuff together and put up my post in time (it's not that hard to remember FIRST SATURDAY, but for some reason that concept has been, until now, beyond me).

But no more! I have months and months and months of books to swap that I've dutifully piled in a corner with every intention of swapping. And now, at long last, I've managed to post them. Click on all the pictures to make them larger.

So, if you're interested in swapping for any of these books (and you have a US mailing address), drop me an email at

SmallReview at yahoo dot com

because I would LOVE to swap with someone!

Most of these are ARCs, and while I do have some ARCs on my ARC wishlist, I also have even more books on my general wishlist and I'm totally open for trades for books I haven't mentioned (you all know my tastes by now!).

And if you want a book from me but don't have anything to swap, then check out the giveaway I have running now!

Also, can I just say EEEEEEEPPPPP! And THANK YOU SO MUCH! To whoever nominated me for

and if you're at all inclined to want to go over to The Bookish Brunette's blog and VOTE, that would be even more awesome. Or just go over and check out her blog and all the other nominees, because they're all well worth checking out.

(but no pressure to vote! There are a lot of awesome blogs on that list and, let's be real, I'm not going to win up against the likes of them. But that's totally ok, because, really, it is an honor just to be nominated. And by honor, I mean, I'm OVER THE MOON FILLED WITH HAPPINESS so, thank you!)

Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013!

Another year has come and gone and now it's time to look back on how things went in 2012 and set the stage for 2013! (Don't care about my 2012 challenges? Skip to the second pink header!)

So, 2012, how did I do?

As far as challenges went, not too bad! Considering. Though this is purely coincidental because after the first few months I pretty much gave up on even thinking about them. I was way too busy and disorganized to post my reviews on any of the link ups or enter any of the monthly giveaways (or even end of the year giveaways).

I did try to keep up with at least recording things on my own blog, but that mostly happened in a few big catch up sessions after letting things build up for a few months without updates. I was also frequently confused as to whether or not a book actually counted for a particular challenge (is this a fairy tale or more of a fantasy??) I seriously over-think things too much (I'm terrible at multiple choice tests!).

So, all in all, I didn't do very well with my challenges, even though I did manage to finish a few. Though I'm particularly happy with how many books I read for the Bucket List challenge and the Off The Shelf challenge, since reading older books is an area I tend to neglect (I'm so easily distracted by all the bright, pretty new books coming out!) Of course I didn't read many of the ones I actually hoped to read, but shhh, let's just not speak of that.

You can click on the links to see the specific books I read for each challenge.

YA Mythology Challenge: Finished! 10/10
Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams made this challenge a breeze. I almost feel like I cheated on this challenge though, considering 7 of the ten books were tiny MG books. I wish I had read more varied YA.

Fairy Tales Retold: Did not finish. 4/12
I'm pretty shocked at this pitiful showing. I'm usually so into fairy tale retellings. Was this not as big a year for them, or did I just miss out on a bunch of great new books?

Bucket List Challenge: Finished! 19/8
Woohoo! I'm super happy with myself on this challenge. And surprised. Very surprised. Bigger surprise is that I actually own 14 of these books (I'm especially neglectful of my own books).

Classic Double Challenge: N/A out of 3 pairs
I totally failed this one. I recorded nine books before giving up because I only managed to read the retelling versions. I hoped this would inspire me to read originals, but clearly I'm hard to inspire (I still love the idea of this challenge!)

Just Contemporary Reading Challenge: Finished! 9/5
Wow, I'm surprised with myself! Usually I'm pretty reluctant to read contemporaries because I have a hard time believing a book can be engaging without any magic or historical features. I had mixed results with these. I think, for me, a lot has to do with the author.

The Dystopia Challenge: Finished! 8/5
I loved four out of the eight and liked the other four, so not too bad. I even managed to read all but two of the books on my goal list for this challenge (one I haven't been able to get a hold of, the other, erm, I own).

E-Book Reading Challenge: Did not finish. 13/20
Well, this one didn't work out so well. All but one were review books, which I kind of figured would end up being the case. I don't really like reading on my computer, but this challenge did make me realize that I DO like reading them when I'm blow drying my hair (hands free!) and at night when the lighting in my bedroom is dimmer.

YA/MG Fantasy Challenge: Finished! Maybe? No?
I counted 20 books for the challenge before I realized the challenge only included fantasy books released this year. So the impressive showing I thought I had (20/10!) really isn't quite so impressive. I'm not sure if I finished this or not, and after agonizing over the question of, "Is this a fantasy? Kinda? Technically no? Yes?" I decided to throw in the towel.

Finishing the Series Challenge: Finished! 3/2
I'm not sure how to calculate this one. I finished three series this year (4 books) that I had started prior to 2012, and I know those three count for the challenge and meet my goal. The others though? I don't know. I read 12 books that "completed" the series as far as published books are concerned, but the series are still technically ongoing. I also started and completed three series in 2012 (9 books). I totally failed when it came to my tentative goal books, but all in all I'm pretty happy with this.

Free Reads: Finished! 15/15 plus a lot more
I definitely did great with this challenge. I bought 12 of the books I read this year. The rest came from various free sources (library books—those don't count for the challenge, ARCs, gifts, and prizes). I feel pretty thrifty (even though I did go out and buy a lot of the books I read after I read them).

Support Your Local Library Challenge: Did not finish 10/36
What an embarrassing result. I would feel more ashamed of this if I didn't have a pretty good excuse. See, I moved this year, so for a big chunk of months I was on the road, unpacking, and then did not have a library card. I also had to play catch up with a lot of review books, so while I did physically pick up books from the library, I had to return a lot unread.

Off the Shelf: Did not finish. 13/15
Not bad! I'm counting this as a personal win because usually my showing would be something more like 2, not thirteen. Not only that, but I managed to knock out 39 books that I acquired in 2012, and while those technically don't count for the challenge, I'm relieved they won't be fodder for next year's challenge.

2nds Challenge: Did not finish. 11/12
I was SO close! I stuck with a lot of new authors and tried and true authors of whom I've read a whole lot already, so there wasn't much room for this category. Even the few books I'm reading now and may be able to finish before the year is up are either new-to-me authors or my third+ experience with the author. So it doesn't look like I'll be able to pull this one off in time.

Sophomore Reading Challenge: Did not finish. 5/10
It would have been six if someone hadn't stolen picked up Hallowed from the library right before I could get it (I'm STILL on hold for it!) There were a few others I really wish I could have gotten a hold of (like Crown of Embers and Dreamless), but I have no excuses for why this is such a small list. On a positive note, I really enjoyed all of the second books I did read, so I'm twisting my failure here into a win for the "quality over quantity" argument.

Time Travel Reading Challenge: Did not finish. 2/6
Wow, this was a total failure! I ended up crossing off one of the potential books from my goal list due to negative reviews (or, at least reviews that made it seem like it wasn't a book for me) and another series that I own I had to leave in storage when I moved. Still, I just did straight up poorly with this one.

Witches and Witchcraft Reading Challenge: Finished! 6/6-10
I wish I had done better with this challenge, but hey, I finished on the low end! Unfortunately, a lot of the books I had planned on reading were available in my old library but not my new one. The Rachel Hawkins series IS in my new library, but I've had a heck of a time trying to get it (someone ALWAYS has book 2 checked out!). I'm also counting Beautiful Creatures for this challenge even though I know they're castors and "don't like to be called witches" because, please, they're totally witches.

YA Historical Fiction Challenge: Did not finish. 9/15
I'm SO disappointed with this! I really want to read more historical fiction, but somehow I always push it aside in favor of fantasy and paranormal books. I was hoping this challenge would help, but I guess my old habits die hard. I'm not even sure if a few of the books I did read count for the challenge (an adult book and Something Strange and Deadly).

Reading Challenge Addict : Did not finish. 7/18
Well, clearly I set the bar too high! Next year I'm definitely going to restrain myself when it comes to signing up for challenges. I do think my move and new job had a lot to do with my poor showing though. If I hadn't been so busy, then I'm confident I would have been able to knock out at least a few more challenges and I know I would have paid more attention to which challenges needed my attention.

What's ahead for 2013?

You'd think I'd have learned from last year's challenge disaster, and I have! I swear. At first I was going to abandon the idea of entering any challenges this year, but after recapping my 2012 challenges I realized I'm way too challenge addicted to do away with them completely. Plus, I really do want to accomplish some of my long-standing reading goals!

So, keep an eye out in the coming days for my challenge posts! I'm going for a targeted approach and I really, really hope 2013 is a successful challenge year.

I fully intend to carry on MY resolutions through at least March.

As far as the blog in 2013, you can expect much of the same as has happened in the latter part of 2012. Unfortunately, I'm still really busy! So my schedule will continue to be a little looser than it was before my move.

Given my time constraints, I will not be hosting a Busting the Newbie Blues this year. The event takes a ton of time and effort, and I don't have the ability to commit fully to such a project right now. I felt like I let the 2012 newbies down by not being as involved as I wanted to be, and I don't want to do that to 2013's newbies. I tossed around the idea of hosting anyway so newbies at least had a central place to link up and mingle, but I don't like doing things partway. Still, I'm on the fence. Let me know what you think?

On a brighter note, I DO fully intend to keep blogging through 2013! You can expect to see at least one post per week, though I will strive for more than one as time permits. I will be taking a page from Bookworm1858's "no frills" approach, so most posts will be reviews. I don't want to abandon my other features though, so you will see some Discussions, Spotlight Lists, Blogging Tips & Tricks, Cover reviews, If I Like..., and Review Comparisons thrown in throughout the year as well.

I would really appreciate some feedback on which posts you prefer to see, so I can direct my efforts toward your favorites. If you don't mind taking a moment to fill out THIS FORM, that would be SUPER helpful! It's anonymous, will take only two seconds, and you can select multiple options.

Thanks for sticking with my through this bumpy year! I can't even express how happy it makes me that you've stuck around and continue to read and comment on my blog. I'm so looking forward to spending 2013 with all of you!

Ready for some 2013 fun?

Small News

Well, 2012 really isn't my blogging year! Yes, that picture does indicate yet another small hiatus. There has been a somewhat sudden death in my family and I'll be flying back to New York for a little while. I have a post scheduled for 9/26 (for a book I loved) and I should also be back by then. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Small News: Small Hiatus

Lately things on the small home front have been...stressful. I was sick (and still am sorta sick), and I've spread my disease to my fiance (who is a much bigger baby about being sick than I am, I swear), AND work has been totally crazy busy.

If I listed all the things I want to whine about, my post would start to look like an issues book, and you all know how I feel about those kinds of books so I'll just leave it at that (though, thankfully, no dead mothers or neglectful foster parents!)

So I'm taking a small hiatus to catch up on things (HOW does laundry pile up so quickly??) and find time to write some reviews. I will also be forcing myself to ignore my email, so I will not be checking my email until after my break.

I will be back again in September!

Why did the pony go to the doctor?

Because she was a little hoarse!

(I thought that was doubly appropriate because I'm both small AND hoarse! Yes, yes, my cheesiness knows no bounds)

Small News: *Cough*

If only I looked as perky as my flame-haired alter-ego. Alas, I do not. I look, well, definitely not good. Because I'm sick! And, lucky me, I get to work a six day week. Yay!

So when I'm not working this weekend, I'll probably be sleeping and not answering all of those awesome emails you sent about books to trade (fyi, if you sent an email, the answer is YES and we'll swap info soon). There are also still some books available to trade (like Soulbound by Heather Brewer) if you're interested. Also, no posts for a few days.

BUT, guess what I'll be wearing in all my coughing working-on-the-weekend misery?

Since I have no brilliant posts for you now, I'll leave you with a fantastic joke that will keep you laughing until I get back. Ready?

Did you hear the rumor about butter?

Oh, I can't tell you. You'll spread it.

HA! Get it? Spread it! Yep, that's how I roll. How about you? Have any good jokes to keep me going? Hope you're having a great weekend!

Small News: Moving!

Moving to Texas!

I'm hitting the road again for another road trip to Texas (but this time I'm bringing all my stuff along with me). I'll be on the road until May 2nd. At that point I'm hoping to get my internet connection set up ASAP, but I've heard horror stories of it taking up to a month! I hope that doesn't happen!

Which is all to say that I'll be sans internet for an indeterminate amount of time. I'm sure I'll be able to find free wireless connections here and there, though, so I'll be able to pop in and read all of your comments (which will considerably brighten my no doubt happy-but-stress-filled-moving-days).

But don't despair! I've scheduled posts to appear for a few weeks while I am away, so you can still get your Small Review fix. I have some reviews, a few DNF-explanations, an If I Like This feature, Cover First Impressions, some author interviews, giveaways, a blog tour stop, and some very cool letters. I hope you enjoy!*

*I've noticed Blogger's schedule feature has been a little wonky the past week or so. Perfect timing? Of course. Hopefully it will work while I am away, but if it does not, rest assured there will be posts as soon as I have internet access!

Small News: I'm back!

I missed you all so much!
*hugs*

Now that I'm back, I can spill the beans on where I've been.

I was driving from New York to Austin, Texas and signing a lease on a new apartment! So, if you're anywhere near the Austin area (I'll be north west of the city) and want to grab a cup of coffee (or ice cream, chocolate, cookies--I'm flexible!) and talk books, please shoot me an email!

I'll be spending the next month and a half packing up the rest of my stuff (erm, mostly more books) and then I'll be road tripping it back to Texas in late April. I have posts scheduled and I'll be around commenting here and on your blogs, though probably not as often as I'd like.

Thank you so, so much for all of your comments and emails while I was away! I really thought I would have better internet access while I was away, but sadly I did not. I have over 5,000 emails waiting in my inbox! I'm slowly but surely making my way through all of them (so if I haven't responded yet, I'm totally not ignoring you! I promise!)

My Google Reader is also extremely scary right now, so I'm taking my tried and true approach to stress and doing the Google Reader equivalent to sticking my fingers in my ears and saying lalalalala I can't hear you! (Which is to say, I'm marking everything as "read.")

So if you have written an unbelievably fantastic post, bit of news, cover reveal, etc. that I absolutely cannot miss out on reading, please feel free to link to it in the comments! (Like, um, I hear J.K. Rowling is writing another book?! See what I miss out on when I go away!?)

Also, the review comparison for The Near Witch will post later this month (I intended to post it while I was road tripping, but I was foiled again by that pesky lack of internet) and I've bumped the review comparison for The Goddess Test to April. I hope that doesn't inconvenience anyone who submitted their review!

I'll try to get together some pictures and gush a little about my very first real live road trip (um, SO different from the books!), but I first need to unpack my bags and tackle those 5,000+ emails...

Small News: Road Trip!

I'm away on vacation!

And, well, other things. But I'll tell you all about them when I come back. As you're reading this, I'll be driving across the country (I'll let you know how the reality of road tripping compares to YA book road tripping. I have a cute guy and good music, what else do I need?).

I'll be gone for about three weeks, so I won't be around here much. But, I'm hoping I'll be able to catch a little internet service here and there, so feel free to comment and email me (just please don't think I'm ignoring you if it takes me a little longer to get back to you!).

I have posts scheduled for while I'm away, including a few DNF explanations, some reviews, and an author interview! I hope you enjoy them.

I'll miss you!

More books for swap

Same as before (gift card for books). Here are the adult books (fyi, in case you're a book snoop like I am, they're a mix of my books, my fiance's, and a bunch of gifts that are not my kind of book at all--you get lots of book gifts working in a library!)

I'm happy to take more pictures to show condition or if there are any titles you can't read. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments or through email (imagesandwords at optonline dot net).

You can click on the pictures to see larger views. I'm sorry if they slow anyone's computer down too much!

The Big Challenge Wrap Up + Small News

So how did I do?

2011 was my first year for participating in reading challenges. Always a subscriber to the "more is more" philosophy, I signed up for a whopping 11 challenges! But signing up for challenges is easy. It's the actual reading books and finishing the challenges that's the hard part. So how did I do?

Gothic Reading Challenge
8/10 books

Goal: Level 3, read 10 books
Did I finish? No, sadly I did not.
How did I do if I squint a little? Pretty good! I read 8 books and by the end of December I will mostly likely finish one more. So 9 out of 10 isn't too shabby. I can totally squint and call this one a win.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

Off the Shelf Challenge
5/15 books

Goal: Level 2, read 15 books
Did I finish? Hahahahaha, no.
How did I do if I squint a little? I can't even squint and get away with this one. BUT! I did read 33 books I acquired during 2011, so that's 33 books that could have gone unread on my shelves but didn't! I count that as a personal win, even if it doesn't really count for the challenge.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

350 Page Books Challenge
10/10 +24 books

Goal: Read 10 books
Did I finish? Heck yes! I DOMINATED this challenge! I am a 350 page reading champion. I laugh in the face of my fear of large books. And by the end of December, I should even have a few more chunksters to add to the list.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

YA Historical Fiction Challenge
15/15 +12 books

Goal: Level 3, read 15 books
Did I finish? Yep, I am a YA historical fic reading machine! The Historical Fantasy Jubilee helped me cross off a bunch of books for this challenge.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

Most Awaited YA Releases Challenge
12/12 +33 books

Goal: Read 12 books
Did I finish? Oh yeah, I OWNED this one. Then again, Me + My penchant for instant gratification + 2011 being a year of awesome releases = Easy challenge to finish.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

2nds Challenge
12/12 +11 books

Goal: Read 12 books
Did I finish? Yay, another win! I'm surprised because I wasn't expecting to do very well with this one. I'm also happily surprised that ten of them aren't even sequels.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

Into the Old World Reading Challenge
10/10 +11 books

Goal: Read 10 books
Did I finish? I totally rocked it! I'm very pleased with this challenge. I was able to cross a lot of books off my TBR that have been sitting there for, obviously, YEARS. I'm really happy I knocked out the Percy Jackson series, plus two of the books I ended up reading were even on my goal list for this challenge (though most of them were not!)

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

Wish I'd Read That Challenge
20/20 +5 books

Goal: Level 4, read 20 books
Did I finish? Score! This was another challenge that got me to cross off a lot of books from my TBR. This was an easy challenge, too, because most of the books were crossovers with the Into the Old World Reading Challenge.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

2011 Debut Author Challenge
12/12 +15 books

Goal: Read 12 books
Did I finish? Yes I did! With books to spare! 2011 was a great year for debuts.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

Library Reading Challenge
40 books

Goal: There didn't seem to be a goal.
Did I finish? I guess? Since there wasn't a goal I can't technically "finish" but I did read 40 books from the library and I'm working on a few more that I should be finished with this month. I think that's pretty good.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

YA Series Challenge
20/30 books

Goal: Level 6, read 23-30 books
Did I finish? Nope, fail! Looks like I bit off more than I could chew with this one.
How did I do if I squint a little? If I look at the low end of 23 books, then I was only three off. I guess that's not so bad! I'm really happy I can finally mark the Percy Jackson series as read in full.

Click to see the books I read for this challenge.

All said and done?

I'd say I did pretty good! I entered 11 challenges and completed 8 of them, most with way more books read than I needed. I am proud of myself. I think the trick is to sign up for challenges that allow crossovers. I got a lot of mileage out of some of the books I read.

Now I'm looking forward to 2012's challenges! If you thought 11 challenges were a lot, I went even more overboard for 2012! From tomorrow until the end of December I will have a new challenge sign-up post each day (and sometimes two per day!) Yeah, that's a lot of challenges.

Small News:

I will also be on a slight hiatus from tomorrow until the end of the month. By "slight" I mean I am going to try to ignore my computer and actually get some work done (like, preparing for January's Busting the Newbie Blues and its sister event Busting the Big Blogger Blues!), but you know me and self-control...

What to expect in January:
  • Busting the Newbie Blues and Busting the Big Blogger Blues!
  • Reviews, WoWs, IMM, No More Waiting!, discussions, and recaps--so if you're not a blogger, there should still be enough "business as usual" going on for you throughout the month.
  • Submissions open for the next Review Comparison
  • No Spotlight Lists in January (they'll be back in February)
  • Two additional Tips & Tricks posts
  • The debut of a new book-related feature.

What to expect in February:
  • Business as usual, mostly.
  • I'll be trying out a new schedule in February, but don't worry, I'm mostly just shuffling things around to better accommodate my busier schedule.

How about you? Did any of you participate in any 2011 challenges? Did you participate in any of the same challenges I did? How did you do? What strategies worked for you? Are you planning on tackling any challenges in 2012?

I'll be back again on Sunday with the no-self-control mailbox I've accumulated throughout the month of November.
See you then!

or you could help make the next event even better by
sharing your feedback!

Upcoming Events!

Get Psyched Up for Psychtember!

You may or may not know, but I'm a big psychology nerd. Yeah, yeah, I know, where are the sparkles and princesses in that? There aren't many (though I'm sure even princesses can have their fair share of issues--you try sleeping for 100 years and see how well-adjusted you are when you wake up!), but I still find it fascinating even without the sparkle bling.

When Danya from A Tapestry of Words invited me to partake in her cleverly titled Psychtember event, I was all over that (plus, with a pun-tastic title like that how could I NOT join in?) Check out her event throughout the month of September for reviews, guest posts, author interviews (including Adele Griffin!), and giveaways for YA books that touch on mental illness.

2011 Book Blogger Appreciation Week!

Did you nominate me?! EEkk! THANK YOU!! My Review Comparison feature has made the long list for the category Best Book Blog Feature or Series of Posts! I'm so happy that you enjoy the Review Comparison feature enough to nominate it!

I may have come up with the idea for Review Comparison, but it is all of YOU who have made that feature possible by sharing your reviews, so pat yourselves on the back because you are awesome!

You can head on over to the 2011 BBAW site and cast your vote. There are a ton of wonderful blogs nominated for a whole bunch of categories and they're all totally deserving. I'm honored just to be listed among them.

Small News

I'm back!

If you're reading this, that means the hurricane caused a blackout and I have no power!

Don't worry, I'm fine! I'm probably reading by candlelight and pretending I'm Laura Ingalls Wilder or Jo March.

But, that means I won't be here to reply to your comments or comment on your own blogs. I will also be turning off the auto-comment feature, so your comments won't appear publicly until the power comes back on. I do have a few posts scheduled for the next few days.

I'll miss you!

Small News

If Blogger were this cute, I'd be significantly less annoyed...
Please excuse the mess...

Is anyone else pulling their hair out over Blogger's little snafu? I lost the Spotlight List post about Adele Griffin's books. That post also had the information about the giveaways. I will try to get both posts back up ASAP, but since I (of course!) didn't have a backup for that post, I'll have to re-write them.

I also couldn't edit my temporarily scheduled Recap post, so it was posted all messed up and half finished. That's been fixed and this post now has all the important updates and info that was originally in the Recap.

Argh, this whole thing is totally messing with my organization! *stomp foot* I'm so sorry about the mess here!

Survey!

In my About section you can see that my goal when starting this blog was to create a friendly environment where YA book lovers can meet, swap book suggestions, and talk books. I hope I'm accomplishing that, but I know it's always possible to improve. So I turn to you. Every comment you've made, every question you've posed have all helped make this blog a better place.

A few examples of features here that your comments have inspired:

DNF reviews
The Review Comparison feature
Blogging Tips and Tricks
Email notification for when I reply to your comments

To help make things even better, I'm asking for you to fill out a quick survey to give me some feedback. The survey looks long, but it should only take a few minutes to complete. Most of it is multiple choice, but I'm the kind of person who always has trouble with multiple choice because I always want to add a "but...." or some sort of explanation. So I've included the option for you to make comments with the multiple choice responses (you can skip those and just answer the multiple choice parts).

None of the questions are required, so feel free to skip as many as you want. The form is anonymous, so please feel free to speak your mind. I'll leave the survey up until June 1st to give you time to fill it out at your convenience. Thank you so much and I hope I can use your responses to help make Small Review even better!

Review Comparison Feature

You all rock so much! I opened up the last Review Comparison Submissions for you to choose the next book and you delivered! The response has been amazing and, honestly, I'm having trouble choosing just one book. So I've decided to keep the submissions open indefinitely and I'll simply pick all future books to be featured as a Review Comparison from your suggestions.

I will include a link to the submission form on:

and at the end of every Review Comparison post

I'm going to try to feature every book suggested, but because there are so many, please be patient and don't feel ignored if your suggestion doesn't appear in a Review Comparison for a little while. They're fairly time-consuming posts to put together, but I do try to average at least one per month.

Please do continue to make suggestions!
